Boxing round timer
Free, with no signup and nothing to install. On iPhone, switch off silent mode or you won't hear the bell.
How long is a boxing round?
A standard boxing round lasts three minutes, with one minute of rest between rounds. Olympic bouts and men's professional fights both use that format. Women's professional fights often use two-minute rounds, and beginners usually do best starting with two minutes.
| Level | Rounds | Round | Rest |
|---|---|---|---|
| Olympic | 3 | 3 minutes | 1 minute |
| Men's pro | Up to 12 | 3 minutes | 1 minute |
| Women's pro | Up to 10 or 12 | 2 minutes, some 3 | 1 minute |
| Beginner at home (our suggestion) | 3 to 5 | 2 minutes | 1 minute |
Round lengths for women's pro fights vary. The WBC has kept two-minute rounds, while some title fights under other sanctioning bodies have gone to 12 three-minute rounds. Rules for youth and novice boxers vary by age and country, so check with your local federation before a competition.
How to use this timer
- Set your session. Pick a preset or adjust the rounds, round length and rest. The timer remembers your settings on this device.
- Test the bell. Turn your volume up until you can hear it from where you'll train.
- Press Start. You get a 10-second countdown to put your phone down and get your guard up.
- Listen for the sounds. One bell starts a round and three bells end it. Three wooden clacks are your warning that time is nearly up, and the same clacks tell you when rest is about to end.
New to this? Use the timer with our 15-minute shadow boxing routine for beginners, which the Beginner preset fits.

Questions about the round timer
Is this boxing timer free?
Yes. It runs in your browser, with no signup and nothing to install. Your settings stay on your device.
Why can't I hear the bell?
On iPhone, browser sounds follow the silent switch, so turn silent mode off. Then check your volume and use Test the bell before you start.
Will my phone's screen stay on?
In browsers that support it, yes. The timer asks your browser to keep the screen awake during a session and tells you if it can't. If it can't, turn off auto-lock in your phone's settings while you train.
Does the timer keep running in the background?
The clock always stays correct, even if you switch away, because it counts from the time you started. On a computer, the bells should keep ringing in a background tab. On phones, browsers can pause sound when you lock the screen or switch apps, especially Safari on iPhone. For reliable bells on a phone, keep this page open on screen.
Can I play music at the same time?
Usually, yes. The bells play alongside your music app on most phones, though this depends on your device and browser. Test it before your session.
How many rounds should a beginner do?
Start with three to five rounds of two minutes each, with one minute of rest. Add rounds or move to three-minute rounds once that feels comfortable.
